After a vacataion trip to the US in 1973 I discovered the advantages of automatic transmission and became fascinated by big and powerful cars. Previously I had been saying that if you can't use a manual gearbox you shouldn't be driving at all but I soon had to take that back. The VW 1500S was turned in for the Valiant in December 1973. It cost me 4500:- sek and I got 1500:- sek for the VW. It had only the 225 cu. in. slant six but with push button automatic transmission and it was OK as the first US car.
